Oscar Fashion Face-off

Fashions favorite red carpet event has finally arrived… THE OSCAR ACADEMY AWARDS!  As the ultimate fashion night for red carpet lovers like me, actresses dazzle themselves wearing the best and most glamorous gowns as the awards season comes to an end.  The gowns worn at the Academy Awards become world famous and the designers are usually known for their symbolic style.
I would like to start of this entry with a shout out to Giuliana Rancic, who as the host of every major red carpet event NEVER receives the fashion recognition she deserves.  For the past two months Giuliana has looked effortlessly stunning and chic as she interviews iconic celebrities.  As one of the most famous red-carpet go-to interviewers, the attention is never on what she is wearing but rather those she is interviewing.  As a fashion blogger I would just like to give her a stylish shout-out to let her know her couture, elegance and stunning dresses have not gone unnoticed.  Giuliana, you have looked beyond gorgeous at every award show and are usually on my best-dressed list above most of the celebrities you are questioning.  For the Oscars, Giuliana decided on a patterned green and black gown by Christian Siriano, the winner of“Project Runway.”  Giuliana quotes “I’ve never worn such a big dress in my life.  To me, it says Oscars, but I admit it’s a risk.”    It was a risk worth taking Giuliana, you look stunning!!!!!

Golden Globes, SAG Awards, Grammy's, Oscars 2011

As I watch E! LIVE from the Academy Awards the first actress whose dress will be seen and talked about everywhere tomorrow is the beautiful Mila Kunis.  Mila decided to be daring in a romantic, couture lace lavender (my favorite color) chiffon Elle Saab gown.  The gown is both simple and elegant and the soft color purple looks perfect with her dark features.   I love that the dress is not skin tight but at the same time shows off her tiny waist.  The draping of fabric and low cut top is exceptionally eye striking.  Well done Mila, well done!

You cannot get anymore Hollywood when attending the Academy awards.  Reese Witherspoon dressed the part with her elegant black and white old-Hollywood gown with STUNNING emerald earrings and ring.  Besides the fact that I have a recent obsession with green jewelry, everything about Reese’s look was Oscar Red Carpet worthy.  The ensemble was simple with perfect makeup and a cool fashionable pony-tail (the hair is questionable to others).  The dress reminds me so much of somethingglamour fashionista Audrey Hepburn would wear.

Everyone should know that I LOVE Celine Dion and think she is one of the greatest singers of all time.  Celine shocked everyone with a beautiful sleek Armani Prive dress.  This gown was accessorized by an elegantly stunning diamond necklace with a green stone (green jewelry makes another appearance…YEAY!)  Celine looked more than remarkable in the tight shimmering dress.  At the age of 42 Celine delivered twins just four months ago and STILL looks fit and fabulous.  YOU ROCK CELINE AND I LOVE YOU!!!!

Searching for Swimsuits

Victoria Secret
Another year, another swimsuit season.   Besides the dreaded journey of dieting and exercising to feel adequate enough to wear a sexy swimsuit there is the exciting adventure of shopping for bikinis.  For the past month I have searched high and low for bathing suits with a certain pizzazz and although the task has been extremely time consuming I found some great suits with some above and beyond looks.
The first place I looked was of course, Victoria Secret.  Here I found their yearly plain suits with other push-up tops which extended from their Miraculous Bra collection.  This year I found that strapless tops are extremely popular along with strapless tops with a centered jewel design.  You can always count on Victoria Secret to cover your basic needs with basic animal prints and polka-dotted patterns.  My big find at VS this season is this pink floral beachy and bright bandeau which I fell in love with because of its feminine and floral feel.  It is the perfect suit to tan in so you are not stuck with horrid strap lines!

My big find for this season is the swim suit label called Vitamin A by Amahlia Stevens.    Here I found unique awesome bathing suits with a cool chic feel.  The 2011 collection includes a gold collection, silver collection and green bikini collection.  While on the site you are able to mix and match different bikini styles such as wrap tops, string bikinis, slider tops and bandeaus (just to name a few).  What I really love about the Vitamin A line are the various prints you do not always see on basic bathing suit sites.  My favorite Vitamin A suit this season is from the Vitamin A Gold Collection- Vixen Cosmo Deluxe.  I love the sparkly animal print with the feminine pink string.  Gotta have it!
DIANE von FURSTENBERG "Claudia" Printed Ruffle Bandeau Top and Ruffle Bottom
Diane Von Furstenberg
My other favorite swim suit is by Diane Von Furstenberg which is a printed ruffled bandeau with a gorgeous mix of blues, grays, light purple and yellow.  I admit to being fully obsessed with this bathing suit and all its great beautifulness!!!

Fashion in the Air!

In the world of fashion there are two weeks of every year where fashion shows, designers and outfits come to life to put on shows of couture.  This past week was New York’s Fashion Week for Fall 2011 and designers such as ADAM, Betsy Johnson,  BCBGMAXARIA, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, L.A.M.B., Tory Burch and so many more, came together after weeks of stress and perfection making to ensure their  best and most impressive lines to date.
After seeing the collections and evaluating the trends it came to my attention the main themes for fall are going to be ¾ lengths, minimalism, and modern tribal.
According to different fashion blogs and New York Fashion Week blogs, simplicity was at its finest this week.  For the fall we can expect to see more tailored pant suits, feminine gowns and loose fitted shrugs.  For Calvin Klein’s Fall ’11 it is never a surprise to see the label’s signature minimalism, but this season he brought back the old trend of chunkier platforms and heels.

One of my favorite designers from this week was Gwen Stefani’s Label L.A.M.B.  Her show took place at the famous Lincoln Center Theater and was filled with bright colors and her signature plaids.  I love the bright orange and red colors which provide such a youthful look and fun twist with dark colors.  (right)  Gwen grabbed everyones attention when she took her moment of glory walking down the runway with son Kingston at her side who was filled with smiles and energy.
Another one of my favorites was Betsy Johnson’s wild runway show which was FILLED with bright colored animal prints, plaids and patterns.  These seasons look resembled 80’s chic with off the shoulder dresses and florescent pops of color.  (seen on the left)

Gold Rush at the Grammy's

Selena Gomez Actress Selena Gomez arrives at The 53rd Annual GRAMMY Awards held at Staples Center on February 13, 2011 in Los Angeles, California. This past Sunday was the night where music and fashion came together to show off the designer vocals of this past year.  As I watched Giuliani Rancic and Ryan Seacrest interview each musician with the famous line “Who are you wearing!?” I noticed a consistency in this year’s Grammy fashion.  GOLD GOLD GOLD!
The first singer/actress who caught my attention was Selena Gomez who totally rocked her J. Mandel gold dress.  She looked so mature and fashionable beyond her years.  Her dress was complemented by her long gorgeous hair which she wore down which only added to her mature natural look.   When she first started her way down the Grammy Red Carpet it was so refreshing to see someone so young have such class and elegance while keeping it cool and chic.  As a teenager it is not always easy to dress your age, but Selena had the perfect amount of subtle and sexy and set a perfect example to young adults on how to dress up appropriately.  You look stunning and fantastic Selena!!!!
Yet again, Kim Kardashian kicked it out of the park with her stunning beaded gold dress by Kaufman Franco with Loraine Schwartz jewels.  Kim Kardashian never seizes to amaze me to find new and inventive ways to show off her curvy figure with glamorous and daring outfits.  This specific outfit not only showed off her legs, but of course showed off her famous booty which she is never shy to show off.
I have to admit, I am 21 and totally obsessed with Miley Cyrus…(no judgment please).  One thing I am not obsessed with is her Roberto Cavalli gown that just did not fit and had the fantastic feature of side boob which is never a good look on a red carpet.  Luckily she had her long locks of hair to cover most of the peak-a-boo-side boob just in case it decided to make an appearance.  Although the dress did not flatter anything about her, I thought the print was very youthful and fun for someone of her age.   Love  you Miley!!!!

Some SAG Fashion

Valentino, Armani, Versace…OH MY!  It has been a fashion frenzy the past few weeks, as we are in the middle of fashions favorite time of year…AWARDS SEASON!   This past weekend were the SAG Awards (Screen Actors Guild) and the outfits and jewelry were above and beyond fabulous.   For starters, we will take Kim Kardashian’s stunning plum dress from the  Marchesa Resort 2011 line and the TO DIE FOR diamond hanging earrings by Lorraine Shwartz.  Kim did a great job softening her look with more natural make up and subtle hair and focused more on the fashion and the bling.
As an award winning comedian, Tiny Fey has not always been a notable fashionista.   But for the 2011 SAG Awards she blew everyone away with a STUNNING red strapless Oscar de la Renta gown.  It was amazing to finally see Fey move away from her usual black and blue gowns and to experiment with something so tasteful and elegant.  When watching her walk down the red carpet you instantly forgot about her funnylady quirky jokes and saw a well-dressed stylish actress.  Other actresses that wore Oscar de la Renta included Lea Michele (who has been on a Oscar de la Renta phase for the past few award shows and looked absolutely perfect) and Jennifer Lawrence, who in my thoughts looked like a blob of bubble gum walking down the red carpet…not my fave.
The last person I will touch base on today will be Winona Ryder in her Alberta Feretti “bridal gown.”  Not only does it look like she has lost her way to the wedding alter, but the dress is just ALL WRONG for the SAG Awards red carpet.  NOT ok Winona…
